Titling

In many countries, practitioners are called Physical therapists or called physiotherapists. In some other countries, a new word is used: kinesiologist.

The World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) asserts the exclusivity of using the professional names of “physical therapy” and “physiotherapy”. Additionally, the professional titles “physical therapist” and “physiotherapist” and their related abbreviations (e.g.: “PT”, “FT”, “Physio”) should be only conserved to persons holding the approved and appropriate qualifications.

It is also advised that protected titles can be used in conjunction with a descriptor.
For the title of Doctor of Physical Therapy, the abbreviation DPT is used as suffix.
